Conditions of the French International Internship Programme in an Administration

On behalf of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Development (MAEDI)

 

Around a thousand positions are currently filled by V.I.A. interns under the authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MAEDI) in quasi-public organisations, and research institutes and centres (IRD, AFD, CIRAD, CEA, CNRS, CERN, EADS, IPEV, EDF, CNES, TOTAL, IFREMER and the PASTEUR Institute).

  

No unsolicited applications should ever be sent directly to embassies.

 

Applicants must wait until an offer appears on the CIVI website before applying and sending their CV and cover letter to the email address indicated in the listing. 

 

Individuals coming under the authority of MAEDI are recruited and managed by the sub-directorate of cultural and cooperation personnel of the Department of Human resources. 

 

Initial MAEDI assignments are for 12 months but generally are renewable up to a limit of 24 months. 

  

MAEDI offers are regularly posted but their requirements are cyclical. We recommend checking their offers regularly. 

 

The proposed assignments include:

- Officers in charge of cultural, pedagogical, educational, university and audio-visual missions

- Scientific intelligence officers

- Officers in charge of technical cooperation, decentralised cooperation and governance with foreign Governments

- IT professionals, media contacts, editors, stewards, cooks and officers in charge of monitoring Embassy property

- Researchers (at foreign universities, international organisations, research centres, etc.)

 

Sought-after profiles:

Law, French as a foreign language, "Institut d'Etudes Politiques - I.E.P." (political science), development aid, project management, human sciences, engineering schools, journalism schools, IT, engineering/town planning, scientists, etc.

 

V.I.A. positions are open to nationals of Member States of the European Union or other countries having signed up to the European Economic Area with the exception of the following cases:

- when the duties are inseparable from the exercise of sovereignty or involve direct or indirect participation in the exercise of public powers of the State or of other public authorities;

- when the authorities in the host country require that the intern (administration) is issued a service passport in order to carry out his/her assignment.

 

 

For the Direction Générale du Trésor - DG Trésor (French General Directorate of the Treasury)

 

DG Trésor does not accept unsolicited applications; you must only apply to offers listed on the CIVI website. Occasionally, it recruits V.I.A. interns directly from the pool of applicants registered on CIVI; make sure you have uploaded your dossier in order to be considered.

 

Applicants should not directly apply to the Economic Departments of embassies or Business France Offices. 

 

DG Trésor is the managing organisation in charge of V.I.A. interns assigned to economic departments.

 

DG Trésor, the Ministry of the Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs - Ministry of External Trade recruits and manages International Interns assigned to economic departments in Embassies. 

 

The proposed assignments include: Research officers (economics and finance) and IT professionals

 

Sought-after profiles: University courses, I.E.P. (political science), business schools and engineering schools

 

V.I.A. positions are open to nationals of Member States of the European Union or other countries having signed up to the European Economic Area with the exception of the following cases:
