Defence Identifier

This 10-digit number is issued by the French Ministry of Defence to all French males regardless of their age and all French females born after 1982:

 

-  It certifies whether the applicant (male or female) has complied with his/her national service obligations; this is a legal requirement for all volunteering. 

 

-  It validates the duration of an assignment as an intern (6 months minimum) in terms of length of service in the civil service and is also used to calculate pension entitlements.


 

 DEFENCE IDENTIFIER

 

This 10-digit number is issued by the French Ministry of Defence to all French males regardless of their age and all French females born after 1982 to:

 

- Certify whether the applicant (male or female) has complied with his/her national service obligations; this is a legal requirement for all volunteering.

 

- It validates the duration of an assignment as an intern (6 months minimum) in terms of length of service in the civil service and is also used to calculate pension entitlements.

 

 

You will not need this identifier, if you are:

 

- A French male born before 1983 AND who has never had any contact with the French Ministry of Defence.

 

- A national (male or female) of a Member State of the European Economic Area (includes the 27 Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway).

 

 

In these cases and only when your assignment has been accepted, will your managing organisation (MAEDI, DGTrésor or Business France) request this identifier from the French Ministry of Defence before your departure.
